As the new year begins,
we again are looking forward to what God has in store for us. We have
just returned from a mission trip to Ecuador with great stories of
success and growth in the name of Jesus Christ.
Ecuador Mission Team - December 2005
It wasn't about us, but
about what God could
do through us to help others. In the comfortable world most of us live
in in the U.S., we often get wrapped up in what's in it for us or
what's God going to do for us. One purpose of participating in a
mission trip is to serve others and to get out of our comfort zone so
God can do good works in and through us. The compromises and
inconveniences of Ecuador pale in comparison to what Jesus Christ did
for us on the cross, and though we can never come even close to that
ultimate sacrifice, the need to be flexible, a little uncomfortable,
and to realize the big picture outside of our personal needs gives us a
little taste of being more Christ-like.
For us, it has always
been a pleasure because Ecuador was planned for
us by God. When we looked for opportunity, it was the only choice. When
we went where we thought was the project we were looking for, God sent
us to where He really wanted us to go, and let us know that was the
right direction because the people told us they had been praying for us
for years and God had finally answered their prayer. Do you have any
idea what it's like to drive up to a place on the edge of not much
thinking you are just going to drop off some dry goods and do a good
deed, only to find out that you have a divine appointment set up by
God? When these people see you, they open their arms wide and are
crying because they have been praying to God for Him to send someone to
help them for years and now here you are?
We have been blessed to be a part of this grand work of God more than
they have been blessed by all the resources we've been able to channel
to them.
Every time we leave, my heart stays there until my body can join it
again. Not everyone is called to go, though my bags can be packed in
about 20 minutes, but there is a role for everyone that needs to be
filled in supporting foreign missions. Find your part and fulfill it
with all that is in you for the glory of God.

Philippians
4:15
"Morever,
as you Philippians know,
in the early days of your acquaintance with the gospel, when I set out
from Macedonia, not one church shared with me in the matter of giving
and receiving, except you only...you sent me aid again and again when I
was in need."
Steve and I were sent to Ecuador by God to be a part of His work
because He
knew that that was where help was needed, that these people had been
faithful and were doing His work. Thankfully He gives different people
passions for various groups around the world so that if all answer the
call, the world gets covered! Whether it's in Russia with the Nelms,
Jamaica with the Stricklands, or a village in Africa that calls your
name, if you aren't a part of local missions, God may have your name on
a foreign mission field. All are equally valid in the work of God and
essential to spreading the great commission. You have no idea what the
help CMC
has been able to provide has meant to them and what it could do ten
times over all around the world. We are happy and willing to go, and
pray for the support that would allow us to return full time to this
area of the world.
