I was thinking about mission trips in church this morning and what is
the real purpose of these trips. I came to the conclusion that they are
to bring glory to God by revealing His love through ourselves to those
we come in contact with. Not only is God's glory revealed, but we
ourselves grow closer to God by doing what He asks us to do: go and
love our fellow man, sharing God's word of salvation. The frustrating
part for me is always the great cost involved to just get to a foreign
mission location but then all things are possible with God and if that
is where He wants you to be, nothing can keep it from happening other
than your willingness to go; don't forget too that the mission field
can be next door or just down the street as well, which is pretty much
free!
I have to say that I have seen the greatest joy come to those that go
as they are more blessed than the ones they came to help. If you feel
this is the time God is asking you to participate, we are planning a
trip to Ecuador this Christmas if there is enough interest. If it is
His will, it will happen;if not, He has other plans for us and that is
okay too!

My family hasn't been all together
for many years,
so if didn't know they existed, that
is probably why!
The hummingbirds just seem to glow
as they fly by.
God gives us so many things daily
that we don't even think about: His grace, mercy, all good things, His
promise to never leave or forsake us. Sometimes as we go, though, we
don't see any evidence that what we are doing is making a difference at
all and we lose sight of that. I don't know about you, but I always
feel like I am trying to find that great purpose for my life, when in
reality, the greatest part may be simply glorifying God. I am a
hands-on person and it is hard for me to "be still and know" but I
believe that is why our situation has kept us in Colombia as long as it
has: to force me to take the time to slow down and reflect, and to
spend time with God.
This guy had a hiding spot on the back of the impatients to lie in wait
to dive
bomb any other birds that tried to get to the feeders!
To make a long story short, I think
glory to God has to be a combination of words and actions as you live
your life. We have been involved in a lot of projects: some have seen
great growth while others have been stagnate and have needed the
dusting off of the sandals as we've had to move on.
I love the fuzziness of this hummer and enjoy his company daily on the
balcony.
We are excited about returning to
Bolivia and what possibilities that may bring for our future. It could
be to return to the states or to a place without volcanic eruptions, if
that still exists! The world is an ever interesting and changing place
but if you leave God in control, there is nothing to fear.
The cherry trees blooming make a pretty
background.
Another week is dawning, and with
it, students who need to learn something! The week for me is
reminiscent of the 8th grade standardized testing schedule in the
states with the MET on Wed., the ICFES on Sunday, and the SAT the
following Saturday for the juniors and seniors. Assessment makes the
world go round, though we aren't always sure that it is in the right
direction!
Not to us, but to God be the glory.

It is our faith and desire to please God that leads us to want to do
good works, not a need to work our way into heaven.
